Details: This piece dates to the Civil War
era and is made of a green plaid silk taffeta.
The front features ruching at both the neckline and waistline and the
piece buttons in the rear with a panel trimmed on either side with green and
white braiding. The green and white
braiding is seen atop each shoulder and around the bottom of each sleeve which
is cut in a slit and rounded in a V shaped opening with fine cording hand
stitched in scrolling detail with a small bow and fringe ties at the end.
The original under sleeves are fully present, an occurrence that is rare.
The sleeves show mild age color with one having two eraser sized breaks,
but the condition is otherwise excellent. The
piece is fully lined in glazed cotton with the silk free of staining or
weakness, a truly incredible must have. Measures
27 inches around the chest, 22 inches around the waist, and 12 inches in its
length.
