Details:
This envelope of collars dates to the Victorian Turn of the Century. The collars
are old store stock, having never been used. Found in the an old mercantile store, the Wheeler Brothers
General Store, started in 1845, and when Silas Wheeler closed the store in 1968,
everything from grains to tools, to sewing implements and silk stockings were
left on their original shelves, undisturbed and untouched.
The
envelope is white with an insert of a picture of a period dressed woman. Inside
the envelope, there are five different collars. Three collars are silk braided
roping and two collars are a paisley print silk with white silk backing. Collars
are pinned in place and are ready to attach. The collars are meant to provide
the piping around the neckline with the base to be stitched inside unseen.
Measure ¾ of an inch in their width and a continuous 13 ¼ inches in their
length.
