Details: This
bonnet dates to the 1860’s and is made of a very fine straw and fabric weave
with embroidery of stiff metallic ribbons stitched throughout with chenille
bumps at points throughout. The brim top is trimmed in a large cascade of white
roses with a portion of lace and apricot ribbon trimming its side.
The hat is fully boned with cloth covered
wires and its stiff black gauze like lining is primarily missing. A small tag
reads SIX in its rear and aside from the hat being slightly misshapen when
unworn and the ties being shorter than they are supposed to be, this hat is in
exquisite condition.
The glass balls and flowers at its side are
original to the era with two remaining glass balls showing breaks. The gold lace
which wraps around them is not original to the era and I personally would
remove. The hat is universal in its size, measures 9 inches in its length and 6
inches in its depth.
