Details:
This piece dates to the Victorian 19th century and is fashioned of
silk de chine over a cotton batted lining. The
piece closes with two glass buttons in the front and falls a full 39 inches in
length, this may have been part of a Christening ensemble.
The bottom is heavily embroidered completely around with a
silk floss thread with the sleeves finished in a two inch band cuff with a braid
patterning its center. The collar is
fully batted and edged with matching braid at two points with a scalloped sheer
silk de chine double layer cape encircling completely around.
The scallop edges have several loose threads on the cape that
are easily trimmed free and minor stretched wear is seen to the chest at the
point of the button enclosures only, the piece is otherwise exceptional and is a
fanciful Victorian must have. Measures
25 inches around the chest.
